The Nike Air Maxim 1 has landed
How to improve a legend?

That was the question for the Nike Sportswear Design Team – celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Air Max 1 with a unique new shoe. The result is the instantly iconic Air Maxim 1.

Nike Sportswear Design Director Jesse Leyva says. “It was an inspirational project. Trying to solve the same problems Tinker Hatfield faced designing the original Air Max 1 25 years ago. But with today’s technology.”

The team focused on lightweight stability and cushioning, engineering a shoe that weighs just 10.1 ounces – a reduction of a staggering 66%. They did it using a mix of lightweight Acespan Mesh and Flywire Technology.

All this makes a shoe that’s heavy on street style but light enough to perform on the track.

Remaining true to its heritage, the Air Maxim 1 features the trademark suede heel counter in original Sport Red, a revolution in its own right when it first graced the Air Max 1 in 1987
